Healthcare Skills Training has developed a range of structured programmes for
Operating Theatre Managers and Nurses. Our programmes teach and examine the practical, legal and
clinical aspects of working in the operating theatre environment and promote best practice. Delivery
is by experts in their respective fields. Teaching and assessment take place in theatres and
thus enhance programme impact and effectiveness.
- Health and Safety in the Theatre Environment
Duration: One day
Overview: This is a one-day course on the application of the Health &
Safety regulations for all healthcare line managers. The aim of the course is to provide a basic grounding
in the relevant legislation and its application.
Duration: One day
Overview: This is suitable for all grades of theatre staff and
teaches the principles and practical aspects of electro-surgery. The course provides revision for
experienced staff and offers user-friendly physics of electro-surgery for those who are new to theatre.
The aim of the course is to enhance patient safety by identifying and teaching the
principles and practical application of Best Practice when using electro-surgical equipment.
This is an assessed course. A Certificate of Competence will be issued to all candidiates who
successfully complete the programme.
Duration: Half day
Overview: This course is designed for staff who work in orthopaedic theatres
and are constantly challenged by the ever-changing instrumentation for knee surgery and the complexity of
the equipment required for arthroscopy.
It is a "hands-on" training course with sessions run in our operating theatres. The
practical sessions provide an ideal opportunity to practice with "saw-bones" and to work in a relxed
environment with experienced theatre colleagues and representatives.
